The answer is so bloody obvious, so here goes:
This stuff is primarily made for American audiences, they prefer British accents in shows like Game of Thrones/Troy because British accents are more exotic and therefore more fitting to exotic medieval/ancient/etc settings. It would pull them right out of the film if actors portraying Greek warriors spoke with a midwestern accent. British accents therefore fulfill the need for exotic, but at the same understandable, speech.
