Привет всем, кто заглянул!) Мне нужно перевести одно предложение, но я не могу понять о чем речь. Вот это предложение:
He was in his thirties, with salt-and-pepper hair and the beginnings of a gut.
Вопрос: что значит the beginnings of a gut ?
В черновом варианте у меня получается так: Немного за тридцать, волосы с проседью и начальная стадия расстройства кишечника.
Но мне кажется, это довольно странное описание человека. Возраст, волосы и вдруг расстройство... Помогите идеями и мыслями) Спасибо огромное!

по-моему, тут речь о первом прибавлении веса, т.с. появлении брюшка
волосы с проседью и первые признаки наметевшегося брюшка

Yes, 'gut' here is colloquial for 'large gut' = a 'pot belly'/'paunch'/'beer belly' etc -- as in 'He's got a bit of a gut on him'.
