typically, the word realia (in English) refers to material objects and has a very limited usage. It also denotes things that are relatively static and unchanging.
In Russian, on the other hand, the word реалии (typically) has a broader meaning, referring to minutae of everyday life. Often these "реалии" are fluid and subject to change and adaptation.
So in a broad context, реалии is best translated by words such as reality, the everyday, the day-to-day existence, humdrum, etc. I assumed the author meant it in a general sense. She is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong.

linguistic realia are not the same as everyday reality. Realia are mostly objects, sometimes institutions, as opposed to the conditions or elements of daily life.
Many dictionaries cite the primary definition of "realia" as culture-specific physical objects used as teaching aids. https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=define+realia

Google retrieves 318k results for "realia of life" but 727m for "reality of life", 24.2 m for "everyday reality" and 172m for "reality of living in London"
