Energy Consumption

A measure of the operation of the chiller is one good indication of ED 2000 performance We have a computer program that will estimate the cost of operating the chiller based on certain factors. A comparison of the condenser approach temperatures over the course of the cooling season can then be analyzed to determine energy savings.

The following information should be collected:

1. Running Hours (derived from chiller panel)
2. Weather Data (computer program will furnish this for each site)
3. Estimated electric costs (kw/hour cost)
4. Chiller kw/ton rating (derived from chiller mfg)
5. Chiller model, type and age (chiller mfg.)
6. Monthly water analysis with initial sample prior to installation of the ED-2000
7. Condenser approach temperature (Saturated condenser refrigerant temp (or converted
from pressure) minus leaving water condenser temperature during the same load
conditions) Estimated approach at the beginning of season and readings taken weekly

If there has been an increase in the condenser approach temperature over the course of a cooling season it is likely it is a result of fouling or a loss of refrigerant. A 1 increase in condenser approach may equate to a 1.5-3% increase in kW/ton and a subsequent increase in energy costs. If one would track the condenser approach temperature it should remain consistent over the course of a season. If it is not and it is a result of scale, the ED 2000 will maintain a consistent approach temperature.
