військ., логіст.	For any particular command, the area extending from the forward edge of the battle area to its rear boundary. It is here that the decisive defensive battle is fought. 2. A fortified area or sector in which major or tactical formations are deployed in tactical or operational order and engaged in defensive action. The operational defence area extends to part of the defence sector of the major operational formation, together with army and army group defensive lines, and stretches back from the rear boundary of the tactical defence area to the full depth of the battle deployment. The tactical defence area includes the sector within which the units and tactical formations in the major formation's first echelon mount their defence. See also defence zone. (UKR/NATO)
