interferon IFN [intə'fi(ə)rɔn] сущ.
мед. Cytokines secreted by certain cells in response to an antigen, usually a virus. Interferon signals neighboring cells into action and inhibits the growth of malignant cells. There are three types of interferons: alpha, beta, and gamma. Laboratory-made interferons are used to treat certain cancers and opportunistic infections. см. также antigen, cytokine
