They ran down to the school to report what they saw, and a group of the other children were very excited when they saw the witnesses. To their surprise their excitement was due to the fact that both had been missing for over 2 hours and had missed lunch and the head count. Fortunately for them the Franciscan monk in charge of the school was very sympathetic and offered to call the local US air base (Torrejon) to ask about the phenomenon.
