The artillery's fire unit is the smallest artillery or mortar element, with the personnel and equipment enabling it to be employed to execute a fire mission. For air-defense artillery, the fire unit is the section comprising the fire assets guns and fire control assets NC1. In a “degraded” mode, the short-range, very-short-range air-defense system can be the main element in the case of an interruption of the liaison with the section’s coordination center.
