A potential weapon of mass destruction based on radioactive substances capable of causing casualties by ionizing radiation, without a nuclear burst. These substances can be extracted from nuclear reactor waste, or produced by bombarding various chemical agents with neutrons to produce isotopes. Radiological weapons may take the form of artillery shells, aerial bombs or missile warheads.
