deployment support

Mission covering all actions conducted by all the components of a joint force, enabling this Force to: 1. prepare and ensure its transport and initial set in; 2. take all arrangements adapted to the circumstances - and especially to the threats - in order to preserve its operational capability; 3. ensure its withdrawal and repatriation under the best possible conditions. Although it can be the responsibility of all branches, the aid-to-deployment mission is more specifically adapted to the capabilities of engineers. They have to take charge of: preliminary reconnaissance before a set in, clearance and preparation of a platform, water and power supply, infrastructure works, area protection or control. Engineers also have to rebuilt communication routes which might or might not include preliminary mine clearing and explosive ordnance disposal operations. Finally, engineers participate in the preparation of the forces' living conditions, and possibly even in that of populations, refugees and prisoners.
