Выражение встречается в следующем контексте:
Название набора для автомобиля. Аналог tools kit, но только содержит другие элементы (трос, огнетушитель и т.д.)

i dont think u should translate it literally here, plumping for something like " a gentleman's tool box." that just will not do. it may sound nice as a tournure, but as the french say, ca ne se dit jamais, you will never hear something like that from a native speaker. hugs

Это небось как раз не wide choice, а самый что ни на есть minimum/standard emergency accessory kit ИМХО. "Комплект ГАИ" его еще иногда называют, в смысле ТО без него не пройдешь (если я прально понял автора :-) )

tollmuch, well, then, i thought джентельменский набор meant in russian something americans refer to as "all the works" but if not, if it is just bare necessities, then it just a "stadnard emergency kit." (not to be confused with the first aid kit, which is a totally different animal, not even the same species, i should say)sorry, russian is not my native tongue, so my apologies

Хе... А интересно, "all the works" как бы на русский перетолмачить? "Полный фарш"? (в смысле климат-контроль, кожа/велюр там, колеса крутые, эрбэги по кругу, backseat entertainment, электрорегулировка сидений и т.п.) Или это скорее всякие пластмасски-бирюльки, чтоб сгнила быстрее? :-) Тогда просто "обвес"... talgat, в это самое all the works что входит?

all the works means every gadget you might possibly want or need (and never use most of them at all, - but that is another story). in russian, i would venture to say, one could use опции под завязку, but then again, it is my guess. i will not sign it in blood. so, let that be a caveat, a waiver of liabilites, as it were.
