Kindly ask your help in order to understand the expression всё как у людей. It is used in following context:

Престижное употребление(т.е. conspicuous consumption, буквально "потребление напоказ") - феномен отчасти сводимый к рахожей русской фразы "все как у людей".

I would say that the idea behind the desire to have «все как у людей» is to some extent similar to American middle-class values though the connotation attached to the Russian phrase has so far been rather positive and seldom downright negative.
It means the aspiration to be a respectable member of society through conforming to its norms and values, including material values, but not only.
The phrase may also refer to “behaving in a proper, socially approved manner”.
