Subject: acronym DOE I know it stands for the US Department of EnergyMy question would be if I pronounce this one by letters, or "doe" like a female deer. Please if there's an expat around ask him \her, for I've run out of them today:))). Besides could anyone give me a tip why some acronyms (like NATO) are pronounced as a full-fledged words, and some by letters for no apparent reason? |

The ways acronyms live and affect our lives are IMHO totally unpredictable :-)) DOE is pronounced letter-by-letter Di-Ou-i. Actually, the central Ou is shortened to just O |
| I know it's not related to the question concerned, but just in case: it also stands for the Russian Department of Education. And it is pronounced in the same manner: Dee-Oh-ee (Ди-О (Оу)-И) |
