Subject: ТУР-60 med.
Please, help to translate.

ТУР-60

Phrase is used in the following sentence:

На фоне преднизолонотерапии 3/III произведена нижняя билобэктомия правого легкого в сочетании с близкофокусным рентгеноблучением зоны корня легкого (ТУР-60, 2017 рад).

Thanks in advance!

I would transliterate, TUR-60.

This abbreviation is the name of the device that provides the radiation treatment, I believe. I couldn't find its full name, but you really needn't that, I suppose; just transliterate it.

Ah, ha! Thanks, Maxxicum! It helps a lot to know that it's the radiation treatment machine. Could it possibly be an abbreviation for "терапевтическая установка с радиоактивным кобальтом"? Radioactive cobalt is cobalt-60. So instead of "ТУРК" might the abbreviation be "ТУР-60," using the "60" to stand for "cobalt-60" instead of "К" for "кобальт"? What do you think?

I really don't know, i'm no radiologist. I've just searched the web and concluded that this is the device for radiation treatment, that's all. Glad it helped.

by the way, I guess it couldn't really be cobalt, since it says "рентгеноблучение", and I don't think that radioactive cobalt produces X-ray radiation (it probably could produce gamma-radiation, but that's not X-rays).

I think it may be something like "торакальная установка рентгенотерапевтическая" or something like that. But that's a very weak confidence guess.

"60" may mean anything: from its power to the year of design.

If you really need to know what it actually means, try contacting some hospitals in Russia which have radiotherapy departments. I can't think of any better way to find out what it really is. The description potentially can be somewhere on the net, but search interferes greatly with tourism pages, so its nearly helpless to find those.

Thanks, again, Maxxicum. I, too, decided that the "60" didn't refer to cobalt-60. I've pretty much concluded that the 60 refers to the voltage. I found an article that says in short-distance radiation treatment, the voltage is usually 40-60kV. I'm currently guessing ТУР="терапевтическая установка рентгеноблучения-60." That's close enough. I'll leave it as "TUR" and add a translator's note.

You've been a big help.
Cheers!
Becky
