When it comes to underground equipment, jumbo drills put almost as much pressure on their hydraulic systems as excavators do, above ground.
The drills’ hydraulic systems not only operate the positioning of their drilling arms, but also operate the drills themselves.
Dedicated hydraulic oils are almost always used.
Because of the high operating temperatures, humidity, dust, and intense duty cycles found underground, hydraulic fluids with a high viscosity index, or “VI,” like Shell Tellus S2 V, are preferred.

Underground loaders, sometimes called Load Haul Dumpers, or LHDs, use their hydraulic systems to power their loading arms, piling ore or coal into haul trucks for transportation to processing facilities.
They’re the subterranean version of wheel loaders.
Likejumbo drills, customers and OEMs usually prefer a dedicated hydraulic fluid with a high VI, like Shell Tellus S2 V, to meet the demands of underground mining.
