The analysis of factual material attested to the fact that this classification needed updating, being prompted by the modern, improved seismic knowledge of the area of the West Siberian sedimentary basin, compared with the 60-es of the last century. On the base of statistical analysis of structural maps of the key horizons of sedimentary cover, to meet the present-day level of study of the West Siberian petroleum province, there was proposed a classification for tectonic elements of the young areas of the platform, the one being used as the basis for the tectonic map generation. This classification allows to identify the tectonic elements more expressly.

The western part of the trench accounts for the ZZZ megabasin and is contoured at a depth of minus 3540 m.

The analysis done to the plotted structural maps showed that the principal features of the cover tectonics reflect most fully the structural plan of the top of Jurassic deposits (the ZZZ Fm and its analogues). That very level was traditionally used for over half a century as a reference in plotting the tectonic maps for the West Siberian petroleum basin.

In the mid-90es of the XX century it became possible to systematize and process all seismic and deep drilling data, employing the up-to-date computer technologies. This work was done in ZZZ under the guidance of ZZZ. The work resulted in the generation of a more detailed tectonic map. Structural maps and based on them tectonic maps have been continuously improved, with the new data coming up.
