What does TYP (Typical) mean on a drawing?

I have a drawing for an assembly and one of the dimensions on the drawing is for a length that has TYP next to it. I know that this particular length is not critical to the function of the entire part, so is this just a "suggested dimension length”? Any help would be much appreciated.

"TYP" generally means typical and is NOT per ASME Y14.5-1994 Dimensioning and Tolerancing, which state that the number of occurances followed by "X" be used.

Using TYP is an old habit that is still hard to quit.

The dimension and applied tolerances for this feature are the same for all other features of the same size and shape. "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." 字串4

In plain english, if there is 10 holes on a part and it reads ".250 dia Typ" then all 10 holes are .250 dia. Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. And scratch where it itches.
