One trend in this thinking inclined to an insular Russian nationalism, rid only of its imperialism (and sometimes hostile to intellectuals and Jews). Russian and Soviet interests, it began to be said, did not always coincide and some Soviet policies worked to the detriment of Russia: centrally-fixed raw material prices held back Russian development and subsided that of the other Union Republics; Russian minorities outside the RSFSR felt inadequately protected and migration patterns were beginning to prove it.
