помогите пож-та с переводом след. предложения:

"The compound is strongly negatively charged and is capable of ionic binding with various mineral elements such as calcium, zinc, manganese and iron ."

С химическими соединениями столкнулась только сейчас (с химией, в целом...) поэтому суть не ясна...что здесь compound, раз он отрицательно заряжен?
