Yes. It's stupid, isn't it? Just because people have a higher education doesn't necessarily mean they're good writers.
This definition is from www.webster.com:
2: having real importance or great consequences = "facts material to the investigation"
So the phrase most likely means that if you break some part of the contract that doesn't seem significant to you at all, it's still grounds for cancelling the contract.
