Subject: kazakh mistakes in english Ok, I am dealing with a text which was translated by a Kazakh scientist into English. hte thing is just not readable.can anyone maybe tipify what kind of mistakes kazakh people usually make in english (if anyone here happens to know this)? maybe then some things will fall into place and mean something..... thanks! |
LOL! Ask Borat Sagdiyev. |
Nina, it'll be a waste of time if you don't have the original. If you make the text readable without the original you might change it rather seriously, and the original and the translation will be quite different. |
You need someone knowing the Kazakh and English and who can tell you what was meant in the original, sentense by sentense. |
Чтобы составить представление о том, какие ошибки делают казахские(российские, молдавские, польские ученые), выберите что-нибудь в Гугле и с его же помощью сделайте перевод. |
Дык, ученый то может и не с казахского, а с русского переводил. Не в том дело. Без оригинала (и весьма желательно знания темы), действительно, ничего не понять. |
kintorov i dont need to edit the translation. i need to read it and understand it and tell my boss what it is talking about. and if i cant figure out what he meant, i cant tell the top banana what he meant :( |
ok. this is bad. i just found out that the guy has bad russian as well and translated his unintelligible russian into even more unintelligible english. hahahaha! i am screwed! |
Nina, you will not understand it, firstly because you don't have a special background to understand this scientitic paper, and secondly because it is a translation which wasn't made by a native speaker. Ask some of your friends to read the text which doest make sense, they might have some ideas/guess what was meant. PS. we don't understand some scientific papers in Russian as they are too difficult to comprehend. |
kintotrov - this happens to be one field in the field of science which i do understand (and VERY well). dont make assumptions. but the text is nonsense and i can only make out about 75% of its meaning. other scientific texts - even written by native speakers - sure, i might not get, but i SHOULD get this one (i wish i could.. it's kind of interesting from what i can tell) |
Or without complicating the issue, try to read and understand this "scientific paper", you'll understand something anyway, and it might enough for your boss. |
kintorov: i already said, i understand 75% of it. did you not pay any attention to that comment? and the problem is, i am a perfectionist and want to understand the other 25% even though it looks like it will be noting important |
Как говорится - "из дерьма конфетку не сделаешь". Скажите боссу, что перевод г-но, и хорошо, что еще это вы смогли разобрать. А казахский ученый пусть идет учить албанский, ну и в том же духе. |
Susan, Can you find the original? It could have been published. If not, tell your boss the truth. What else can you do? |
