to resolve the sands

Ув. коллеги, в нижеследующем предложении не могу найти адекватного перевода термину "to resolve the sands":

If the sands are thinly laminated between shales, the deep resistivity may not be able to resolve the sands, and the resistivity may remain low.

Прошу помощи в этом вопросе. Тематика - каротаж скважин.
