Subject: полузаконный муж About someone intending to marry. Would you say common-law husband? Or intended husband? Or semi-legal husband. Don't know if the two people were living together already or not, but I suspect yes...Cheers guys! |

| Common-law marriage actually is a legal term meaning "an agreement between a man and woman to live together as husband and wife without any legal formalities, followed and/or preceded by cohabitation on a regular basis". As to a couple about to get hitched (assuming that we don't know if they were living together or not) I'd simply say that they are engaged or are going to get married. A "semi-husband" sounds really weird. Why not say a partner after all? |

| This is meant to be funny (ha-ha, not ga-ga) - my intended may be to formal; and so, I feel, will be the rest of them - partner, cohabitant, live-in boyfriend, husband-to-be ... smth like "my almost-husband" would be nearer the mark - it is not a "proper phrase" in Russian, it's an attempt of a joke. |

| Просто мне всегда казалось это омерзительным. Мужик, который не работает, а сидит на шее у жены/любовницы, как пиявка. И, имхо, ни одна нормальная женщина терпеть такого не будет. Хотя, даже "дамы", которые зарятся лишь на чьи-то деньги, а сами ничего собой не представляют, тоже, мягко говоря, уважения у меня не вызывают. |
