Poker sites grant a sign-up bonus. For example, if you deposit $100, they may grant you $100 bonus dollars (or $50, or $25, etc.). But they will only give you the $100 bonus in cash after you play a certain number of real-money games. Usually, each hand you play in which you put money into the pot gives you a part of of your bonus cash (how much exactly depends on the size of the pot). So if you lose the $100 you deposited before you complete the requirements for earning the bonus $, you end up with $0. That's why people who try to make money on poker bonuses try to play low-limit games with low risk. But on some sites, it is nearly impossible to clear the bonus requirements at low limits, i.e., it takes a very long time. Basically, my advice to you is to forget about bonuses and learn to play poker well - that's the only way you'll make any money from the game.
