о прошлом и будущем (философск. тезис)

Здравствуйте, коллеги. Посмотрите, пожалуйста, два предложения из искусствоведческой статьи – я не уверена, что правильно подобрала английские слова в данном контексте. Заранее огромное спасибо.

1. (что-то вроде девиза) Творить не там, где пролегают границы, но там где простирается будущее человека.

To create not where the borders of the man run, but where the future of the man reaches

2.Никто не может похвастаться по-настоящему удовлетворительным и достоверным знанием как будущего, так и прошлого. Предвидеть, хотя бы пытаться предвидеть — вот страсть, которую мы получили от матерей с их беспокойством относительно нашей жизни. Знать прошлое — вот страсть исторического сознания, в той или иной степени развитое у человека.

Nobody can brag of rather satisfactory and authentic knowing both the future and the past. Foreseeing, at least trying to foresee is a passion inherited from our mothers with their anxiety about our lifes. To know the past is a passion of historical consciousness developed by a human being to a greater or lesser extent.

Тут у меня вызывают сомнения слова «похвастаться» (правильно ли в данном контексте to brag?) и «страсть» - здесь это passion, thirst, propensity - как лучше?

И "человек" здесь - human being?

Предложу как вариант (просто понравился текст), наверное будут варианты и лучше
Nobody can be certain in true knowledge of the future and the past. We are eager to foresee/predict or at least we try to foresee/predict. This is given with our mothers' care for our lives. To know the past - is the eagerness of retrospective consciousness which is inherent to some extent in a person/human being
