Holdup
The fractional percentage by volume of borehole contents (i.e. gas, oil, water) measured over a cross-sectional area. Typically this cross-sectional area is the inner diameter of the production string (casing or tubing). Holdup can be measured at different places throughout the production string and can vary dramatically with deviation and flowrate.

A common mistake is to think water holdup and water cut are one in the same. Water holdup is not equal to water cut because of the slip velocity.
