Subject: chicks - происхождение slang
привет!

меня интересует имеет ли значение "девочки" слова chicks корни из испанского chicas или это происходит от "цыпленочек"? :)

According to the online etymological dictionary at http://www.etymonline.com/:

=== start citation ===
c .1400, abbreviation of chicken (q.v.), extended to "a child" and used as a term of endearment. As slang for "young woman" it is first recorded 1927 in black slang, popularized 1960s.
=== end citation ===

If this is correct, there is no Spanish connection.

Thanks for asking, I learned something.

Also from Urban dictionary:

chick 18 up, 26 down

Chick is originally an abbreviation of chicken. Since a time long forgotten it has been used in a metaphorical way referring to women, primarily due to their genetically caused affinity to an hyperactive flow of talk, as well as other strong likenesses:
-they are easy to excite
-usually turn up in masses and seldom are seen alone
-they get drunk easily
-their meaning of life is to eat and be eaten (out).
