1)любящий муж, самой яркой деталью внешности которого являются бакенбарды либо 2)выживающий из ума старый хрыч с бакенбардами, по контексту. doting может означать и страстно обожающего, и в маразме |

Про бакенбарды там оттуда, что muttonchops, muttonchop whiskers (в отличие от mutton chop) это бакенбарды и есть. Причём и mutton chop (в раздельном написании) тоже может означать бакенбарды. Но реже. В словаре можно было посмотреть. Ещё вчера. |

| Любопытно! В Москве, в начале 70-ых были в моде большие бакенбарды, которые назывались "котлетами". Неужели это был просто перевод? А я-то думал -- какая игра ума... |

For example, the comedian Jimmy Durante was called 'The Schnozz', because of his very large nose.
