IMHO: Я думаю, Вы правильно угадали, что там было "применяя более дешевое...", т.е. я бы оставила Ваш вариант to regulate energy consumption by using... The existing program designed/designated for/aimed at... ... ensuring profitability above the market average.../outstripping the market... Для запаса прочности предложу: ...serving/acting as a buffer against unfavorable market trends and strengthening competition ...mitigating/absorbing unfavorable... ...building/allowing/providing an adequate margin of safety to protect against/mitigate/minimize unfavorable... Я тока не поняла, а что Вы имеете сказать против женщин? :-) |

Алекс, попробуйте неблагоприятный переводить как "adverse" - imho более кошерно звучит. Еще одно излюбленное слово там же "запас" - попробуйте headroom. типа provide (sufficient) headroom against/to cope with/to cover against adverse developments/movements ИМХО |

и еще один вариант, который иногда неплохо ляжет на "запас прочности" - это resilience (типа нашего "ваньки-встаньки" - его бьют, а он не поддается :-)) здесь - имхо ляжет контекстуально |
