помогите, пожалуйста, разобраться с фразой, которую редакция специализированного журнала использует для представления читателям автора статьи:
"John Doe is a senior systems engineer and technologist working to support portions of the US Federal workforce."

The US Federal workforce includes a wide variety of personnel, servicing various branches of the Federal Government. My guess is that John Doe works as a systems engineer that supports SOME of the federal workforce, because 1) different engineers support different branches/sectors of the massive federal machine and 2) obviously one man cannot possibly support the entire federal workforce. To paraphrase - John Doe is a .... working to support a segment/sector of the US federal workforce.
