"essential workers" "trophy" OR "plaque" OR "award"

you'll find that a lot of organisations in the US and UK -- such as local councils -- have awarded trophies, cups, certificates etc to people working in the "essential services", especially since the Covid pandemic began last year. In the context of Covid the "essential services" primarily means healthcare workers, especially those dealing with Covid patients and in hospital emergency departments. However, it often also includes the other emergency services (police, firefighters etc). Finally, it can sometimes also include additional groups such as electricity/gas/water industry workers; sanitation workers; and others. So in some cases it will mean "работники жизненно важных услуг", but in others it will mean "работники жизненно важных услуг + others".

In the UK the govt began using the terms "essential services/shops" and "non-essential services/shops" in early 2020 during the first of our (so far) three lockdowns, to distinguish between those areas of the economy (such as those listed above) which were allowed/ordered to stay open to enable the country's basic services to continue functioning, and those (such as pubs, restaurants and 90% of shops) which were considered less important and were ordered to close.

If the asker's text refers to Covid, that's probably the meaning.

I have been an essential worker and "a hero" since March of 2020. I should say I felt extremely uncomfortable, when on the top of employee entrance at our hospital a huge sign "Heroes walk through these doors" greeted me. I always used visitors' entrance. Or when local restaurants offered free food for "our heroes". It reminded me 9/11 2001 when every firefighter was "a hero". Even ones who were jerks. Even those who have never seen fire.
