What's the context? Does it relate to people's health? |
Yes, it's about mental health. How to deal with GAD. |

Thank you. * a lapse in health terms means a setback, ie the opposite of progress/going forwards. * a relapse here just means a repeated setback. 'Bumps in the Road' [to better health] is used figuratively, of course. |
Not exactly. During the treatment process several lapses may occur. Let's say, you decided to quit smoking. Three days in a row you didn't have a single cigarette. Than you say to yourself "I will smoke just one and that is it". You smoke that one cigarette and keep staying tobacco-free for the next week or so. That is an example of setback as you said ( временный срыв). A week later you did the same. Another lapse. Month later ooops, you did it again. These lapses are not always bad as soon as the period of time between the lapses keeps increasing. However, if two or three months later you return to old habit of a pack of cigarettes a day, that would be an example of relapse ( рецидив) . |
A lapse is also known as a slip: when an individual in recovery reverts to using alcohol or drugs and stops again within a short time. The almost immediate retraction of alcohol or drug use helps a person to avoid falling back into addiction once again, but a lapse can feel like a setback in recovery even if the person regains sobriety. A lapse can be a productive reminder that you have to remain dedicated to recovery, but it can also be the start of a down slide into relapse, depending on how it is handled. A relapse entails a full-blown resumption or return to the addiction or behavior that someone wanted to stop or moderate. While a lapse is short-lived, a relapse entails the loss of recovery gains already made, which means the person falls back into using the unwanted substance or engaging in the undesired behavior. |

Lapses - это отклонения от нормы (в медицине) |
If you experience generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), you have chronic and persistent anxiety. Your friends and loved ones may describe you as "nervous" or as "a worrier." You may feel anxious about daily situations and your worry is likely out of proportion or irrational. Anxiety can alter your everyday routines, and it can also have an impact on your memories. (...) This can be a major problem in your work and personal life. Worry can hinder your working memory, causing you to forget important tasks or appointments. You may make more mistakes at work or have trouble juggling everything you need to do at home. You might experience lapses such as: Not remembering where you parked your car in a parking lot Frequently losing things, like your keys or your phone Repeating things in conversation because you can't remember if you already said something Difficulty recalling directions or information someone gives you Trouble remembering items you want to purchase in the store === Мне думается, вполне подойдет слово "приступы". |

Да, недавно обсуждалось нечто внешне похожее, но "срыв" не очень подойдет, как мне думается, в данном примере. |
