Modern dentistry evolved from primitive dental treatment practices that in the ancient times were not part of official medicine. |
"official" is too official. I would say "were not accepted/recognized as medical" |
The 17th century saw the emergence of a new practitioner known as the 'operator for the teeth'. They had a broader remit than toothdrawers and were defined in a contemporary dictionary as: "one skilled in the drawing of teeth and making artificial ones". Аdvertised themselves as specialists in dental work. |
