Subject: Артикль и афиша Здравствуйте! Помогите разрешить конфликт)) Есть фраза "Заслуженный коллектив народного творчества имени Заслуженного деятеля искусств РФ". Задача - сделать перевод для афиши (!). Вариант " Honored folk dance group, named after NAME, (the) Honored Artist of the Russian Federation". Вопрос: в различных источниках встречала этого злополучного " Honored Artist" и с артиклем, и без. В данном случае вот прям не хочется его ставить! Интуитивно как-то. Плюс ещё это афиша, из институтской программы помнится , что у афиш и газет свои нюансы. Как бы вы поступили??? |

По-моему для афиши подошло бы - Ivanov (or other name) Folk Dance Company Всё остальное - не для афиши. |

| Заказчику можно попытаться объяснить, что все эти звания на английском будут лишь вызывать недоумение, тем более на афише, поскольку у "них" ничего такого подобного нет. А если достучаться до здравого смысла невозможно, то наличие или отсутствие артикля ситуацию не спасет. |

10-4 & Perujina +1 If it were for a biography of the group it would be OK to include the full title, but English-language posters tend to be written in a form of shorthand which omits all unnecessary/confusing information. So I would use 10-4's example. Why? Because.... 'Honored Folk Dance Group' will confuse English-speakers. They'll simply think "What does 'Honored' mean?! Honored by whom?" 'Honored Artist of the Russian Federation', likewise, won't mean anything to 90% of English-speakers, unless they know a bit about the Soviet/Russian honours system. It will also take up space and would look rather pompous on an advertising poster. Similarly, if you had a poster in Russian advertising a forthcoming concert by a British singer which said (in Russian) 'Sarah Connolly, Companion of Honour, Commander of the British Empire', it would be unnecessary information which wouldn't mean anything to most Russians. * Honored (US); Honoured (UK) |
