In Gijsbrechts` picture “ Wall with a Vanitas still life”  we can see brushes,   palette and  canvas with a still life. On the canvas there are a big cup, tobacco and a tobacco pipe which symbolize earthy pleasures; also there are ears –   a symbol of the eternal life ; a   violin – as a remind  about art; the scull, shell, soap bubbles and the tube for blowing it out, the sand clock and the extinct candle  symbolize transience of life.

А где русский вариант? Вы переводите на английский?

Я не художник, но вместо "On the canvas there are a big cup..." я бы написал "The canvas shows..."

Касательно eternal life

ИМХО, употребление артикля здесь опционально. Если мы говорим о категории вечной жизни вообще -- то без артикля. Но здесь речь идет о конкретном ее символе, поэтому употребление артикля вполне оправдано. Ну, и поиск в Гугл на "the eternal life" дает  about 4,050,000 results  (0.61 seconds)

А какой здесь конкретный символ вечной жизни? ....Уши символизируют вечную жизнь как таковую.

исходная задача поставлена неверно. артикли нельзя просто так взять и расставить в существующем тексте. они неотъемлемая часть речи, во многом определяющая ее смысл. поэтому помогать с артиклями невозможно -- можно только отредактировать весь текст целиком, что и пытаются делать (по частям) коллеги.
