In Washington DC, many of dietitian Charmaine Jones’s

clients, who are African American, find it difficult to move away

from eating so much fast food because they perceive much of what

is labelled as healthy food to be ‘white people food’. Most of her

clients are low-income black women suffering with type 2 diabetes,

high cholesterol or heart disease. Much as they want to be

healthy, it is not easy for them to change the way they eat when

the surrounding culture presents them with a vision of healthy

eating that feels exclusive and alien to them: a Goop vision of

wellness.
