Subject: OFF: LOL, NBD and WTF polite From today's BBC News:"P&G wants to trademark LOL, NBD and WTF Global household products company Procter & Gamble has applied to trademark acronyms that are common in text speak. If successful, terms including "LOL" (Laugh Out Loud), "NBD" (No Big Deal) and even "WTF" (too rude to spell out here) could be used to market products. P&G hopes to use the acronyms in the names of soaps, detergents and air fresheners. The firm believes that under thirty-fives can be persuaded to buy its products if they're branded with slang taken from text speak." Is it April 1st already? |

Are they trademarking that as well?!? |
Nah, he's just trying to keep the conversation going! :-) And I hate to disappoint you, John, but a Friday night isn't really the right time to post an OFF (or any topic for that matter): all the regulars are out drinking..))) Anyhow, P&G trying to trademark the acronyms in question is not the craziest/funniest thing you see in the news these days. |

Going out and getting drunk? No, I can't imagine any Russian doing that.... LOL :-D I seem to remember a few years ago David Cameron repeatedly texting some newspaper editor and finishing all of his texts with 'LOL', thinking it meant 'Lots of love'. So he'd send her texts such as "We're announcing today that we're having a crackdown on millionaires who avoid paying tax. LOL David". If you're going to write in acronyms it's worth finding out what they mean before you use them. |

heh... he is lucky he is not an american -- i imagine in america explaining he meant "lot's of love" would get him into even a bigger trouble :) (oh, and is he married? then double that trouble!) |

интроьверт: Yes, he was (and, amazingly, still is) married! But on the other hand he's a politician, so his wife should know that if he's being friendly to someone today, it probably means he's going to stab them in the back tomorrow! Apostrophe: There's no apostrophe in your text, it's just fake news! ;-) |

YY = too wise... Clever, very clever. |
because it's "two Ys" (YY) which sounds "too wise". |
I understood, that's why I called it very clever. That said, sorry for bumping an old thread. I sometimes dig deep in the forum and then forget the thread is abandonned already. |
