Контекст: речь идет о генном кластере, включающем несколько генов, один из которых кодирует полипептид Х с антимикробной активностью, а другой отвечает за устойчивость клетки-продуцента (E. coli или другой) к полипептиду Х.

вы бы привели контекст на английском, поподробнее\, где там E.coli и эти два пептида

например, определение "self-immunity - ability of B-cells to recognize antigens of the internal milieu"

т.е. polypeptide with self-immnity activity будет означать, что к этому пептиду вырабатываются антитела, несмотря на то, что этот полипептид - не внешнего происхождения, т.е. "свой"
