Subject: и этим все сказано Здравствуйте! Помогите, пожалуйста, перевести фразу "И этим всё сказано".. У меня есть предположение, что это переводится как "and there is nothing to add", но может быть есть что-то более "родное"?Спасибо |

| be careful when using 'period;. it may raise some unwarranted associations if your readers are british. they would say 'full stop', as 'period' has a popular definition of an entirely different nature |

Да, значит period здесь не очень подходит.. Смысл немного искажается.. Я взяла and that sums it up Всем спасибо! |

"Period" is exactly what you're looking for. It means yes, it goes without saying, as a matter of fact. Sorry but "that sumps it up" does not make sense in English |
| D-50 - how can you possibly say that it makes no sense in English? You may not agree that it's the best translation of sentence posted, but as we all know, it is all very subjective. The important thing is whether it is grammatically, stylistically and thematically correct And it is. |

kath, Sorry, maybe I didn't make myself clear. Let's do it this way: "Yalta is the main (capital, key, master whatever) conference in Ukrain, that sums it up". |

D-50 Ой, зря Вы так ;-)) Пошукайте по форуму, тема поднималась, и не раз. Конечно, артикль там не с руки, чего уж.. Но! У меня свои счёты с Перекладами. Поэтому я буду писать всегда the Ukraine, а осознание факта, что так нельзя (и мне отлично объяснили почему), лишь придаст мне бодрости. Ничего личного, разумеется. Просто я ежедневно терплю колоссальные убытки от того, что существуют богомерзкие Переклады, у которых работы выполняются = works are fulfills, а the Russia с артиклем.. |
