Что-то я засомневалась в его правильности:

Оригинал: Работник обязан бережно использовать любые предоставленные ему инструменты, инвентарь, устройства, средства защиты, компьютерное программное и аппаратное обеспечение и материалы, не допускать их нерационального использования, повреждения и утраты и незамедлительно возвратить их Работодателю по его запросу.

Мой вариант: The Employee shall carefully use any tools, devices, protection equipment, computer software and hardware and materials provided to him, prevent the same from irrational use, damage or loss, and immediately return the same to the Employer upon the Employer’s request.

"Не допускать" значит не позволять - не давать разрешения или физически препятствовать. "Не допускать" самому себе - бессмыслица, но если в оригинале написано именно так, то перевод должен соответствовать...
"Нерациональное использование" - термин с огромным объемом и, соответственно, с малым содержанием, т.е. он потенциально включает в себя много чего разного, но в каждом конкретном случае будет означать нечто очень четко определенное. Но поскольку в данном случае мы имеем дело со значением этого термина "вообще", то и переводить его следует максимально обобщенно - irrational use/usage/utilization

Писал, как обычно, по наитию, а я привык доверять своей грамматической интуиции. Если кто-нибудь пожелает объяснить необходимость наличия там еще одного shall -- буду признателен )

Ровно наоборот, вполне осмысленное требование - вот хочется на компьютере поиграть или целыми днями на форуме торчать, а нельзя, трудовой договор запрещает, и правильно делает. Приходится брать себя в руки и "не допускать".

'не допускать их нерационального использования, повреждения и утраты' -- I would use:
* 'prevent them being used inappropriately, damaged or lost'; or just
* 'prevent them being misused, damaged or lost', which means exactly the same.

'Inappropriate use' is an all-embracing, set expression which covers over-using something, using it for the wrong task, using it in the wrong location, etc.

Even though it's a legal document, you could also consider replacing your 2 x 'the same's with just 'them', as it's clear what both 'the same' and 'they' refer to in this case.

tumanov: You can't really say 'to care about' in this case. 'To care about' is used in the negative in expressions such as: "I don't care about my brother, I'm going to do it whether he likes it or not" and "I don't care about my homework, I'm going to play with my mates". In other words, it's used in the negative to show that you're not interested in/are disregarding something or someone.

When used in the positive, 'to care about' tends to be used in an emotional/semi-emotional way, often in reference to humans or when likening objects to humans -- for example, "I really care about my mother and how she's going to cope when she's in hospital" and "At Microsoft we really care about our customers" (no, don't laugh....), and even "I really care about my 1920s car, I wash and polish it every week and take it for a little run". However, you wouldn't normally use 'to care about' with tools/equipment/computers, especially in a formal document.

HOWEVER, your comment's made me realise that there's a very similar expression -- 'to take care of' -- which, although it isn't an exact translation of 'бережно использовать', is probably the nearest English equivalent, and can be used with both things and people. It's therefore ideally suited here, and definitely better than the asker's version. So thanks for that, tumanov.

Alex16: You could use 'prevent improper use of' -- but then you'd have to say 'prevent improper use of, damage to or loss of them/the same', which sounds rather clumsy. 'Avoid' -- same applies.

'Prevent' v 'avoid' -- It's true that the 'не допускать' doesn't specify whether it applies to just the employee, or others, or both, but I think we can assume it's both, as the agreement's effectively saying "they're your [the employee's] responsibility". So I've used a neutral construction for the English which reflects the neutral wording used in the Russian, and covers both the employee and others.
