Hi Linch, I did not mean to hide behind anonymity. For the last three years I have been working on a book on pre-1917 Russian revolutionary visual propaganda, more specifically anti-government postcards 1901-1908. The vast majority of my research has been carried out in archives in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, particular in the censor's journals, and the files of the Imperial Police and Okhrana etc. This is the origin of my queries. Naturally as my Russian is non-native, I have difficulties over some of the constructions, which is why I have turned to you kind and knowledgeable people for some assistance. Alas, I cannot hope to make any money from this project, let alone afford to pay a professional translator, hence my presence here. Please forgive me if I have tried your patience in any way but I am most grateful for all the help that I have been given. Tobie |

Originally, склад is a warehouse, but here кустарный склад means склад кустарных изделий, which was an institution possibly storing but mainly selling artisans' produce. Roughly translated, someone "presided over the offices of the craftsmens' warehouse belonging to/under the jurisdiction of the Voloda governorate (from the Russian "губерния") council." |
