Environmental pollution
The level of environmental pollution of Kyiv and aggregation of the towns take place among the 15 densely populated areas of Ukraine, recognized as the most unfavorable for living people from an environmental viewpoint. High incidence of waste and discharge of hazardous substances into the atmosphere and natural surface water were supplemented by high level of radioactive waste, decrease in species composition of biodiversity, forests, lands and etc.
The quality of the natural environment in Kyiv agglomeration is mainly determined by high incidence of waste of hazardous substances into the atmosphere and discharge of waste water into natural surface water. It must be noted that an average of total incidence of discharge into the atmosphere in Kyiv decreased significantly. This was explained mainly by the decrease in production of the industrial sector and decrease environmental pressure the discharge from vehicles.
The amount of industrial waste water from the industrial and municipal organizations of Kyiv continued to grow. Quality of drinking water, recreational areas for people are decreased, decrease in species composition of biodiversity. The level of water pollution of the Dnipro River in the territory of agglomeration belonging to such drinking water that not recommended for drinking.
Soil contamination in different parts of the city is uneven. The level of accidental pollution in Kyiv agglomeration is rather low. This is due to the formation of an effective system of preventive methods, using the purification facilities and advanced technologies, high-skilled industrial personnel. Among accidental pollution, the largest number of incidence account for pollution of waterways.
