Почему бы не перевести просто как: Sometimes it's difficult not to lose audience's attention.

becasue it does not sound like an english speaker wrote it....

if you want to simplify the sentence try "sometimes it is difficult to keep the audience's attention"

"keep the attention" and "not be able to keep the attention" of someone is an accepted english phrase

to keep the audience alert/interested/awake
to ensure the audience stays alert and interested
to gain/grab/get/capture and hold the audience's attention
