Mechanical polishing

This is a very important phase to get good results with an optical microscope.
The polishing is done with dedicated machines, with manual or semi-automatic preparation using the appropriate sample holder.
The first steps are performed with increasingly finer silicon carbide paper; the cards dishes can function by bonding, magnetic or water suspension
It ‘s very important to continuously wash the plate during the steps with the cards, to remove the residues of the removed material, and to cool the contact surface, in order to avoid small structural changes in the skin layer of the samples.
