Речь идет о борьбе между Францией и Англией за территории Северной Америки. Заключительный период конфликтов, которые начались в конце 17 в., назван Франко-индейской войной, когда французы объединились с индейцами в борьбе с английскими колонистами. По итогам войны Франция потеряла практически все владения в Северной Америке, и среди всего - форт Michilimackinac, находящийся в районе Великих озёр. Можно сказать, что последняя песенка французов была спета со сдачей этого форта.
Или, учитывая, что французы привлекли на свою сторону индейские племена, можно сказать, что это был их последний боевой клич (they placed their last disc) :)
А chasing можно легко найти в словаре .
