Authentication is either explicit (the users is prompted) or implicit (logon to the network is used; this is called single sign on (SSO)).
Use of IWA for authenticating Internet access based on NTLM does not represent a security problem. Kerberos is possible, but this would mean that the proxy would have to process every request twice, as Kerberos is a protocol for authentication on a server.
