Не могу понять, в каком значении тут "peel over":

По смыслу должен бы быть turn over. Опять что ли опечатка...

Да она (субмарина) и не крепится ни к чему, чтобы отцепиться.

Он всё время делает упор на её манёвренность и способность "летать" в воде. Думаю, это какой-то авиационный термин, типа "peel off" - полубочка, разворот.

Моё мнениё:

Он сравнивает ситуацию в море с ситуацией в воздухе. Как парашютист отделяется от самолета и парит себе, так и он мечтает также "отлепиться" от субмарины и поплыть.

если бы можно было вот также выйти в море и "летать". Увидел что-то интересное, отцепился/вылез(от субмарины или другой техники) и поплыл рядом с animal that you have never seen before.
