Subject: санаторно-лесная школа gen.
Dear playmates,
In the terms "санаторно-лесная школа" and "оздоровительная лесная школа", to what does the "лесная" refer? More to the point, can anybody suggest an English-language equivalent?

Many thanks.

к тому, что она находится в живописном месте на адриатическом побережье, где по утрам надоедают цикады в лесу...

Хотя это из серии зелено-сладкого или толсто-мягкое...

Maybe I'm looking at it from the perspective of a city dweller born and bred, but the fact that these schools are all in woods and forests seems rather wierd. Sounds like something out of Little Red Riding Hood...

look at it the other way around:
it's a long-term live-in facility for children with respiratory problems, built in a wooded area for better air quality, and it offers the school curriculum (so that the long stay does not hamper their academic progress)

Armagedo and techy1 - Thanks a lot. I don't think we have those in the UK. Our schools are strategically positioned next to gasworks to "build character". In short: Russia 1, England nil.

Как называется санаторий на фотографии? И на скамейке вроде не дети?

***for children with respiratory problems ***
not only ( + заболевания сердца, ревматизм и т.д.)
built in a wooded area etc. -- quite right
