On Load tap changer (OLTC)
A German make OLTC of 1500A and 170kV class with multi coarse arrangement was opted. This tap changer is having 5 coarse selectors and 1 fine selector switch with 107 tap positions. Three single pole OLTC is used for three phases. Tie in resistor is provided for safe transition between coarse winding switching, as per the recommendation of OLTC supplier based on winding shunt capacitance values. It takes 3 second to complete one tap operation. For operational protection, OLTC is provided with PT 100 sensor and synchronisation relay. PT100 sensor monitors the temperature of diverter compartment and Synchronisation relay monitor the synchronisation of three poles.
