Subject: Ease of entry makes silence difficult hunt.

I have long believed that a good single-shot rifle in a sweet-shooting, light-recoiling calibre like the 7x57mm or .308 Winchester topped with a quality 4X scope would make the ideal rifle for such a hunt. For leopard, a short and handy rifle is most suitable for use in the cramped confines of a blind where silence is essential, yet ease of entry makes silence difficult. One shot is all you are likely to get at a leopard on a bait, so a singleshot rifle is not a disadvantage in this situation. I believe that sportsmen tend to shoot better when they know that a single shot is all they have. It's purely psychological, but it works! With practice, single-shot rifles can be reloaded just as quickly as any turnbolt. They're nice to carry as well as fun and an absolute pleasure to use. The alternative for such a hunt is a turnbolt, and there are many makes and models from which to choose.
